5,000 Fan Photos Transformed Into Permanent 25th Anniversary Mosaic

It’s been over a year in the making so we’re delighted to finally reveal Motorpoint Arena Nottingham’s People’s Picture Project. A huge mosaic made entirely from fan photographs.

The 6.5-metre artwork, now permanently installed in the arena foyer, brings together over 5,000 images submitted by fans and community members. Each photo captures a personal memory – first concerts, family outings and milestone moments – creating a collective story of our impact over the past quarter-century.

Can’t visit in person? A digital version is available where you can zoom in and explore stories behind the photos.

The People’s Picture Project drew contributions from across Nottingham, the UK, and beyond, with the mosaic officially unveiled in the Motorpoint Arena foyer on Thursday 22 January.

“When you look closely at this mosaic, you don’t just see photographs – you see real lives, memories and moments that have shaped this venue,” says Martin Ingham, Motorpoint Arena Nottingham’s CEO. “Every image represents a genuine connection to this place.”

Created in collaboration with British artist Helen Marshall – known for large-scale community projects like The People’s Moon – the mosaic puts audience experiences front and centre.

For contributors like Christina Avraam from Arnold in Nottingham, seeing her phone photo become part of something permanent has been moving: “The Motorpoint Arena isn’t just a building – it’s part of Nottingham’s heartbeat and a place where I’ve made so many incredible memories!”

It’s a beautiful way to mark 25 years of Motorpoint Arena Nottingham – and a reminder that the best venues are built from the memories people make inside them.
