Motorpoint Arena & Don Broco Help Pull Off Surprise Proposal
Motorpoint Arena Nottingham played host to an unforgettable moment last week when Harrison Rhodes, 38, got down on one knee during the rock band’s sold-out show, with arena staff working behind the scenes to coordinate the elaborate surprise.
Sarah King, 35, originally from Newark, had no idea what was unfolding as Harrison led her from the standing area to specially arranged seats in the middle of the venue.
“I had no idea what was happening,” said Sarah, who now lives in Chesterfield with Harrison and their five-year-old son Jack. “We were standing in the middle of the crowd enjoying the gig when Harrison suddenly said, ‘come with me’. Before I knew it, we were sitting down in some seats. I kept thinking, ‘what’s happening here?'”
As the couple appeared on the arena’s big screen, Don Broco – their favourite band – emerged behind them. Harrison dropped to one knee and proposed before the band serenaded the newly-engaged couple, creating a moment captured on camera by hundreds of delighted concert-goers throughout the venue.
“We’ve had so many people send us videos and photos from all over the arena,” Sarah said. “Hundreds of people filmed the whole thing – we got it all from every angle. They played our favourite song afterwards – ‘Bruce Willis’. I know it’s me in the video, but I still can’t believe it happened to me!”
The magical moment came together through careful coordination between Harrison, the band, and Motorpoint Arena Nottingham staff, who arranged the logistics to ensure everything ran smoothly on the night.
Harrison had secretly contacted Don Broco after booking tickets, explaining they were huge fans and asking if they could help make the proposal special. The band went above and beyond, arranging special tickets and promising to serenade the couple personally.
In a moment of hilarity captured on camera, Sarah hugged Don Broco band member Rob before hugging her new fiancé.
The venue holds special significance for Sarah, who grew up in nearby Newark and visited the arena as a child to watch ice hockey. She recently returned with her mum to watch Nottingham Forest netball.
“The Arena staff were amazing on the night of the proposal,” she said. “They helped Harrison pull off something I’ll remember forever.”
The proposal was particularly meaningful for the couple, who met seven years ago. Sarah, a florist who owns Aurora Florals, had been told she’d struggle to have children before unexpectedly falling pregnant with Jack, who spent time in ICU after birth.
“There was never a right time to talk about engagements and weddings,” Sarah said. “But Jack is well, and everything has fallen into place.”
The couple are now planning their own unique wedding celebration, choosing between a garden party or even getting married halfway through the Las Vegas Marathon – combining their passion for running with their big day.
Harrison said the magical evening was everything he’d hoped for and more, with Motorpoint Arena Nottingham providing the perfect setting for a proposal that neither he nor Sarah will ever forget.
The arena continues to host major music events and entertainment throughout the year, creating memorable experiences and bringing joy to thousands of visitors across the East Midlands and beyond.
